The Prep Department Assessments
Trinity School
Within our Preparatory Department, assessment is key to monitoring the
standards reached by our pupils and ensuring that they remain on track to
achieving their potential.
Through daily self-evaluation, using a traffic light system, pupils
assess their own performance and their understanding of a task; promoting
independent learning. This aids the staff with future planning so that every
child receives lessons tailored to their individual needs ensuring the best
possible chance of realising their potential. Effort and Attainment grades are
given for each piece of work alongside positive comments and targets for
improvement; these are used to inform the termly reports.
During the Autumn term ‘summative’ or snapshot assessments include
numeracy, literacy and comprehension skills. Summer term assessments include the
use of SATs and reasoning papers. Reading and Spelling ages are assessed twice a
year and help complete the information on each pupil’s progress. This
information is shared in a regular programme of formal and informal meetings
throughout the school year. We believe that whilst a written report of progress
is essential, maintaining a purposeful dialogue throughout the year strengthens
the family / school partnership necessary for a pupil to thrive.
