Sixth Form Subjects & Choices

Trinity School

The Sixth Form curriculum offers a broad range of subjects  which prepare students for any university degree and/or careers. There are also opportunities to study other subject areas in addition to the A level programme through optional clubs. We also have a link with the Open University so that students may study modules through the Young Applicants in Schools Scheme in a variety of subjects from Creative Writing to Medicine. English as an Additional Language leading to the IELTS qualification is also offered in Sixth Form.

Students are given comprehensive advice as to subject choices based on their individual circumstances and aspirations. This process begins at the beginning of Year 11 and continues, as required, to ensure that the Sixth Form course opted for by the student is the most sensible and attractive route to their chosen destination. Interviews take place with the Headmaster and Careers Advisor in the Autumn Term of Year 11. There is input from teaching staff and form tutors as well. The Head and Deputy Head of Sixth Form are also available to discuss options, including when the GCSE results are released. There is flexibility to change the A level choices once embarked upon as many subjects are new to students. By October of Year 12, Sixth Formers know that they are doing absolutely the right programme and can focus on achieving their very best. New students are quickly integrated as a result of the Sixth Form Induction programme and a variety of social events.

Students usually choose four AS levels to begin with, although they can study three or five, whichever is most appropriate to the individual’s needs. Many students will study three A2 subjects in Year 13, again depending on the individual and their future plans. Students may also opt to study AS Critical Thinking  and AS/A2 General Studies, to support their core subjects.
